Each term, the Center for Sustainability hosts a free public lecture and/or event highlighting topics in sustainable agriculture, food or resource management.

Queen of the SunWe welcomed Director, Taggart Siegel, for a showing of his new documentary, Queen of the Sun in San Luis Obispo which was followed by a panel discussion with Cal Poly and local experts on bees and a social reception featuring local desserts!

QUEEN OF THE SUN:
What Are the Bees Telling Us?

is a new documentary taking us on a journey through the mysterious world of the beehive and the disappearance of bees through colony collapse disorder.' This film weaves together a dramatic story of the heart-felt struggles of beekeepers, scientists & philosophers from around the world. The film will begin at 6:30.

PANEL DISCUSSION & Q/A
After the film were comments by Director Taggart Siegel and three campus and community leaders who work closely with bees: Scott Jeffreys - Cal Poly Beekeeper & Horticulture and Crop Science Lecturer, Dr. Mark Shelton - entomologist & CAFES Associate Dean, and Gene Brandi - owner of Gene Brandi Apiaries & board member of the CA State Beekeepers Association.
