Cal Poly Compost Unit tour and demonstration
Date & Time: Saturday 4/19, 10:30 am – noon
Location: Cal Poly Compost Unit, behind the Cal Poly Dairy. Take Mt. Bishop Rd off of Highland Drive, go ¼ mile and follow dirt road to right up to top of hill. Parking is free.

Solar Cooking Class

Location: Davies Farm, 5015 Jespersen Rd, San Luis Obispo
Description: Learn to cook with energy from the sun at a free solar cooking class. Solar cooking is easy, inexpensive, helps retain food nutrients and flavors, and uses no fuel. 

Greenovations Compost Demo
Date & Time: Monday-Friday 4/21 – 4/25, 9am – 3pm
Location: UU next to Starbucks
Description: We will be having 3 compost bins that will be monitored by the Zero Waste Club and other volunteers. There will be a table with any club information and a space for “all things sustainable.”

Climate Predictions, Water in the West, and Fracking
Date & Time: Monday 4/21, 6-7pm
Location: Bldg. 192, Rm. 106
Description: In honor of the upcoming Earth Day, the Empower Poly Coalition and the Graduate Planning Student Association present: Dr. Page Chamberlain, Geologist and Professor of Environmental Earth System Science at Stanford, examines the link between climate, tectonics, biological, and surface processes. He will give an exciting presentation on Climate Change Projections, Ocean Acidification, and Water in the West. His presentation will be based of his own research and analysis. He will be followed by David Braun, a Front-line Community Organizer, founder of Americans Against Fracking, and grassroots coordinator for the films Gasland and Gasland 2, who will present on the dangers of fracking, the need to move to renewables, and how folks can plug into the movement in order to help make California the leader in a truly clean, renewable energy economy.

Geology Club Trip to Poly Canyon
Date & Time: Wednesday 4/23, 2-4pm
Description: Walk-and-talk to architecture graveyard to view our state rock (serpentine with beautiful chryotile). Meet at 2:10 at Poly Canyon Rd, leaving promptly at 2:20pm.

'Dirt the Movie'
Date & Time: Friday 4/25, 6pm
Location: Bldg 180 1st floor

SLO County Earth Day Fair and Music Festival
Date & Time: Sunday 4/27, 10am – 5 pm
Location: El Chorro Regional Park and SLO Botanical Garden
