Over 9,000 acres are allocated for agricultural instruction
Over 9,000 acres are allocated for agricultural instruction on the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo campus and at the University’s Swanton Pacific Ranch (in Santa Cruz County). These include rangeland, orchards, vineyards, animal, vegetable and field crop production, agroforestry and turf management. Greenhouses, an arboretum and facilities for livestock, meat, dairy, fruit, and vegetable processing are also available for educational use. Classes in fields such as agritourism, bioconversion, cropping systems, alternative energy, grass-fed beef and lamb production, Holistic Management, integrated pest management, native plant landscaping, and soil and water conservation offer students special opportunities to explore sustainable agriculture.
